MENACE TO RUGBY

"GOLF WORSE THAN LEAGUE" REFEREES TAKING TO LINKS [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] DARGAVILLE, Wednesday "It looks as if we cannot have Rugby where we have golf. It is a bigger menace to Rugby than is League football," said Mr. W. A. Underwood when the shortage of referees was being discussed at a meeting of the management committee of the Northern Wairoa Rugby Union last night. It was stated that some of last year's officials would not officiate this year, as they would be playing golf. The chairman, Mr. W. Kelly, suggested to Air. J. Parore, the referees' representative on the committee, that, a meeting of referees should be called urgently. . „ . , After further discussion sufficient referees were appointed to meet the requirements of the opening daj', next Saturday. Mr. Parore said he would endeavour* to get the referees to confer.
