ROTARY BALL

CONFERENCE VISITORS GAY SCENE AT UNIVERSITY The Auckland University College was gay with the sound of music last night when a ball was held there in conjunction with the Rotary Conference at present taking place in Auckland. The stage of the assembly hall, in which the dance took place, was decorated with an enlarged replica of the Rotary emblem surmounted with flags of the Empire, while along the front were placed flowering pot plants. Masses of bamboo foliage and palms were arranged in the entrance hall, where chairs were set out for use between dances. With all the main doors open and a cool breeze blowing through, this was a popular retreat on such a warm night. Excellent music for the dancing was supplied by the orchestra of the New Zealand Institute for the Blind. The members of the committee present were: —Lady Mackenzie, who wore a frock of crfeam figured marocain; Mrs. J. P. O'Connor, in lacquer red embroidered crepe; Mrs. D. Henry, black lace and silver lame; Mrs. G. Lawrence Taylor, peach floral taffeta; Mrs. A. S. Bailey, pink and blue floral taffeta; Mrs. W. Calder Mackay, black mirror velvet trimmed with diamante; Mrs. Stanley Reid, black crepe faille and diamante; Mrs. G. J. Park, leaf brown Chantilly lace; Mrs. Percy Harrison, blue and rose shot taffeta; Miss V. Clark, cinnamon lace; and Miss M. Rhodes, black lace. Among those present were: —Mrs. P. Stanley Foster (Christchurch), who wore a frock of ivory crepe patterned, in petunia and green; Mrs. W. E. Lewisham, black corded faille relieved with white; Mrs. W.l Coltman, black panne velvet and lace; Mrs. C.'
