MERGER WITH COUNTY CHANGE NOT FAVOURED [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] RAGLAN, Thursday A largo meeting of 'ratepayers was held in the Raglan Town Hall on Wednesday evening to consider the advisability of the County Council taking over the affairs of the Town Board. The meeting was the result of a petition to the council presented by Mr. R. H. A. Cushman and signed by 30 ratepayers, asking the council to consider the advisability of such a step. The county clerk, Mr. G. H. Smith, presented to the meeting tho financial benefits likely to accrue from such a change. The alteration was opposed in speeches by Mr. A. L. Pegler, chairman of the Town Board, and Mr. T. Parker, a former chairman. After a short discussion a motion in favour of the continuation of a town board in the interest of Raglan was carried on the voices.
