RAGWORT NOT CLEARED

CAMBRIDGE FARMERS FINED [from our own correspondent] CAMBRIDGE, Thursday Three Pukerimu farmers appeared in the Cambridge Magistrate's Court yesterday charged by the Waipa County Council with failure to clear their properties of ragwort. They were Leonard Seton Otway, who was fined £10; Stuart Dunbar, fined £2; and Edward Allen, fined £2. Otway was represented by Mr. J. D. Clemow. Both Otway and Dunbar pleaded guilty, but Allen, represented bv Mr. D. J. Lundon, forwarder! a plea of not guilty, on the ground that by the day the summons was issfied the ground had twice been cleared. The magistrate, Mr. S. L. Paterson, said that the place was not clean, and it was therefore doubtful if the work had actually been put into clearing efforts.
