EXPORT OF FRUIT
SUPPLIES FROM DOMINIONS TOTAL FOR UNITED KINGDOM [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] NELSON, Friday The New Zealand Export Fruit Control Board and the Australian Apple and Pear Council recently came to a decision that the total export of apples to the United Kingdom from Australia and New Zealand for this year would be 4,950,000 cases, in the proportion of 23.J per cent from the Dominion and 76J per cent from Australia. Mr. W. Benzies, secretary of the New Zealand Control Board, interviewed to-day, stated that the board and the Australian body had met in November, 1934, and after long discussion had agreed that the total quantities of apples to bo sent to England from the two countries should not exceed 5,100,000. Shortly after, tho Australian delegates had returned home, but as a result of information received from London they asked if New Zealand would agree to a reduction of that total by 10 per cent. The Dominion I board agreed, and as a result its total was about 1,075,000 cases. After the matter had been reconsidered in Australia late in 1935 in regard to this year's quantities, it was decided to apply similar totals and proportions. "It is understood the agreement will not affect any apples shipped by cither country to the United Kingdom during February," added Mr. Ben7,ics. "Neither dqes the agreement affect pears for the United Kingdom, nor sent to any market other than tho United Kingdom. Under the arrangement, the board considers it will be able to ship overseas all tho fruit submitted for export."
