EAST COAST AIRWAYS

EXTENSION TO AUCKLAND POSSIBILITY -DISCUSSED [by telegraph—ow.v correspondent] GISBORNE, Friday The prospects for the extension of the air services from Gisborne are discussed in the annual report of the Gisborne Chamber of Commerce, and the possibility of early connection with Auckland is pointed out. The report states: "The chamber litis given much consideration during the year to matters connected with air travel, realising as it does that this form of transport is world-wide and has definitely come to stay. The service at present operating between Gisborne and Napier has been somewhat handicapped in its work on account of the inadequacy of the local aerodrome. Emergency landing grounds, required by the aviation laws, are being arranged, and these will be improved to meet emergencies as they arise.

" When the local aerodrome is enlarged and improved, there is a strong likelihood of a service being established between Gisborne and Auckland. The Auckland Chamber of Commerce has been interesting itself in this direction and has the support of this chamber."
