A SHADE BETTER
RUDYAED KIPLING NATURE OF OPERATION KING MAKES INQUIRIES By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright LONDON. Jan. 15 A bulletin issued yesterday afternoon from the Middlesex Hospital, where Mr. Rudyard Kipling was operated upon, stated that he was maintaining his position. Inquiries were made on behalf of the King, who was informed that Mr. Kipling was a shade better and that his condition was as satisfactory as could be expected in the circumstances.
Mr. Kipling's operation was for a perforated stomachic ulcer, a condition which renders him liable to a sudden relapse. Grave anxiety was felt for him late last night. Mrs. Kipling and their daughter, Mrs. Bain bridge, saw the patient for a few moments in the morning and visited the hospital again in the evening, but Mr. Kipling, who had been dozing fitfully, was too exhausted to speak to them. Callers included the Prime Minister, Mr. Baldwin, who is Mj. Kipling's cousin.
