YOUNG MAORI DROWNED
FALL INTO CHANNEL LOST IN HEAVY FOG [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN* CORRESPONDENT] KAWHIA, .Wednesday Leaving his home on Monday evening to go spearing flounder in the Hauturu River, a well-known Kawhia Maori, Tom Papea, married, aged 24, did not return. A search party was organised yesterday, and the body of the young Maori was found this morning on a rock near the mouth of the rh-er.
There was a particularly dense fog over the river on Monday night. It is thought that Papea became lost and fell into the channel. He leaves a wife and two children.
An inquest was opened this afternoon, but after formal evidence had been tak£n, it was adjourned.
