UNIVERSITY SENATE
SESSIONS OPEN TO-DAY CHOICE OF A REGISTRAR Several officers and members of tho New Zealand University Senate arrived in Auckland yesterday for the annual sessions, which are to open in the Auckland University College Hall today at 11 a.m., when tho chancellor, tho Hon. J. A. Hanan, M.L.C., will deliver his address. This will be followed by the election of officers and committees l'or tho coming year.
Tho first day's business also includes the receiving of reports on medical education, special schools and the Workers' Educational Association, together with examiners' reports. The senate will be called upon to appoint n successor to tho registrar, Mr. E. T. Norris, who is retiring after 21 years' service. Several of the applicants for the position have been invited to appear in person before tho final choice is made. The members of the senate are:— Auckland, Messrs. T. 11. Wells, H. J. D. Mahon, Kenneth Mackenzie and F. A. do la Mare; Wellington, Professors J. Rankine Brown, T. A. Hunter and G. W. von Zedlitz, Dr. T. D. M. Stout and Messrs. P. Levi and H. F. von Haast; Canterbury, Professors J. Hight and H. G. Denham, tho Hon. G. J. Smith, M.L.C., Messrs. H. D. Acland and A. E. Flower; Otago, Dr. W. Ncwlands and Messrs. W. J. Morrell, L. D. Ritchie and J. C. H. Somcrville. Tho sessions are expected to continue until Tuesday.
