TIME COMPARISONS JELLICOE HANDICAP HORSES An interesting feature of tho performances of tho .1 ellicoe Handicap candidates is that while all have won at two miles only six, namely, War Paint, Logan's Pride, Nimbus, Willie Derby, Kewpie's Triumph, and Impromptu, I have bettered their handicap. Logan'sl Tride, 5 4-ss, has the largest margin in his favour. He established his record at Addington in June, IO.'K), winning off 4.34. Nimbus has a dirt track placed record of 4.25 3-5. Ho has won three two miles races since coming North, his best grass time being 4..'10 3-5. War Paint's 4.30 3-5 is also a dirt track performance, but she has gone only two seconds slower at New Brighton. Willio Derby has run 4.27 and on three other occasions registered second placingy in 4.28, all at Epsom. Kewpie's Triumph has von all his races on tho grass, mninly in heavy ground, but on a firm track 110 went 4.24 1-5. Impromptu, who is handicapped on 4.24, has a dirt track record of 4.20 3-5, but lowered this by two seconds when he secured fourth money in tho Auckland Royal Trotting Cup. Bingen Chief has won in his handicap time, 4.32, whilo Smooger's record is only a tick outside his mark. His times have been consistently sound, as on five other occasions ho lias gone between 4.31 and 4.33. Wee Machine, who two seasons ago won three races at the distance, has run a shade worse than his 4.34 handicap, but is starting off the 4.33 limit. Lady Coronado. who won all her two miles races on holding ground, has tho slowest timo. Auto Machine, who has won ut intervals over several seasons, has not lowered the 4.29 he recorded when ho first came from Australia. Tho following tabic shows tho best placed performances of each horse, together with tho handicap:— Best Hdcp. Time Plaoe War Paint .. 4.83 4.80 3-5 3 Wee Machine .. 4.83 4.84 2-5 1 Chief .. 4.32 4.32 1 Lopun's Pride •. 4.H2 4.2G 1-5 1 Lady Coronado .. 431 4.37 1 Nimbus . . .. 4.30 4.25 3-5 2 Smcoger . .. 430 4.30 1-5 '2 Willie Derby .. 4.29 4.27 2 Kewpie's Triumph . 1.28 4.21 1-5 3 Auto Machine . ■ 4.27 4.20 3 Impromptu .. .. 4.21 4.1S 3-5 4

TRAINING AT TAKANINI WORTHY LIGHT'S CONDITION The Takatiini trotting trainer F. J. Smith worked a number of his horses on the dirt track at Glenora Park yesterday. The ground had dried well after rain, but was not in favour of fast times. Worthy Light, with Nelson Luvan as a companion in the final stages, was given a sound task, infusing a good deal of vim into his work at the finish. Tho New Zealand Trotting Cup candidate has furnished well since he last raced, am:l, although ho looks a trifle pretty, should run a smart mile and a-quarter to-day. Nelson Luvan paced freely and shows no ill-effects from his fall at Hamilton. As L. Coleman, who was his pilot at Claudehmds, received an injury to his shoulder, Nelson Luvan will be ridden on Monday by N. L. Craig. War Paint maintained an even pace over three rounds. She looks in good order and should bo capable of going a solid two miles. Nellota had no difficulty in holding Pearl Parrish comfortably at the end of two rounds and sho appeared anxious to increase the speed. Nellota has taken no harm from her Hamilton racing. Bonny Azure and Rayon D'Or went usefully, whilfl Baron Alfonso and Mapula were allotted steady work. Nell Volo, who struck herself earlier in the week, was not worked. She was well bandaged, but Smith did not expect tho trouble to jeopardise her chance of racirg to-day. On the Takanini course W. Clifton gave Gold Dredge, Social Pest and Peter Junior sound tasks. The three pacers aire all in great heart.
