HOMES OF FILM STARS
WHAT A NEW ZEALANDER SAW Sidelights on life in Hollywood were given to a Wellington Post representative on Wednesday by Mrs. J. Bur-wood-Allanson. who arrived that morning on a health visit to New Zealand after having spent some time in the United States. Mrs. Burwood-Allan-son's former home was in Wellington, but in recent years she has been living in Colombo. Many of the homes of the film stars were rather surprising at first sight, she said. Most were of tho Spanish bungalow type, and the outside walls were usually pink, green, blue or some other odd shade, and they stood in large grounds. One of tho largest houses sho saw belonged to Harold Lloyd and was furnished in the modernistic style, with much chromium plate and glass.
The American women, not content with the exquisitely natural-looking coiffures that the hairdressers could givo them, now colour their hair, Mrs. Burwood-Allanson said, and their choico of colours was amazing. One woman she saw had red, white and blue hair. A less extreme but equally' amusing vogue was for a streak of platinum 011 a dark head. When in Honolulu Mrs. Burwood-Allanson also met Jeanette Mac Donald and Janet Gaynor, who were spending a holiday there. Mrs. Burwood-Allanson's husband is a racehorse owner in Colombo, and she is contemplating the purchase of two horses while in New Zealand to add to the stables. She will leave on her return trip toward the end of November and will be accompanied by Miss Marie Bolton, of Wellington.
