LONG JOURNEY TO PLAY SWAM FLOODED RIVER DETERMINATION REWARDED [BT TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] NEW PLYMOUTH. Thursday To walk eight miles, swim a flooded river and then play an excellent gamo in a Rugby trial match which gained him a place as wing-threequarter in Taranaki's representative team, wau the performance of Nigel Hunter today.
Hunter was staying at a farm ixt Tangahoe Valley. The torrential rainit of last night and this morning causecl a flood in the Tangahoe River which washed away a temporary lbridgo erected - after the February floods, Hunter was not aware of this, and set/' out on the journey to Eltham. On reaching the river he found it in high flood and the bridge washed away. However, he was determined to plaj in the match, so he plunged into this river, safely crossed and completed this journey. The game he played proved his stamina and ability.
