TAX EXEMPTION

INCOME OF WOMEN ERROR IN OFFICIAL FORM Nearly a year ago the exemption for women who are required to make a declaration of income other than salary or wages was increased from £2O to £SO, which meant that unless such income exceeds £SO they are not required to make a declaration. Mistakes are liable to be made by those who have not informed themselves on this point, as the form now in use still states the exemption at the old figure of £2O. Examination of the form shows that 1,000,000 of them were printed early last May, not long before the alteration in the law, and steps have not been taken to correct them. The chief postmaster. Mr. J. P. P. Clouston, to whom the matter was referred, stated that the officials concerned were aware of the position, and would draw attention to it if any woman should be misled by the old figure into making an unnecessary declaration.
