PROGRESS IN AUSTRALIA IMPRESSIONS OF A BANKER [by telegraph—own correspondent] WELLINGTON, Monday The view that' Australia had made substantial steps toward recovery, although there was still a good way to go, was expressed by Sir James Grose, general manager of the National Bank of New Zealand, who returned to Wellington to-day by the Maunganui after a short visit to Australia. Sir James, who yvas accompanied by his daughter, • Miss M. G. Grose, said there was quite a hopeful tone about business in Melbourne and Sydney. Money was being spent with a good deal of freedom. It was three or four years since he was previously in Australia, and in that time there had been an astonishing growth, particularly in Sydney and Melbourne.
