POLICE SUPERVISION
NEEDS OF MANUREWA Complaints that the Manurewa district was inadequately supervised by the police were voiced at the Manurewa Town Board meeting last night. A letter from a minister of religion referred to a recent case of a young girl being attacked at Manurewa. He said there had been other cases of girls being frightened, but they had not been reported, as the girls feared publicity. He suggested that the board make representations to the Police Department. Mr. E. S. Pegler said representations had been made frequently, but without result. There was no police officer stationed in Manurewa, the nearest being at Papakura. He suggested that representations be made for the establishment of a separate police district to extend from Takanini to the Papatoctoe boundary. He moved that the board arrange to meet the Minister of Justice in Auckland at an early date.
This was agreed to after other members had reported incidents which, they alleged, indicated a neod for additional supervision.
