LYCEUM CLUB EVENING

"Germany Reborn" was the subject of an address given before the Current Events Circle of the Lyceum Club last evening bv Mr. K. Schmidt. The president, Mrs.* W. H. Parkes, presided. The subject was dealt with principally from the commercial and social points of view, and Mr. Schmidt outlined the causes that led to the present regime. One of the aims of the German Government was the re-establishment of farming life. Other aims were the extension of public works schemes in connection with afforestation and swamp reclamation, the abolition of unemployment, tax reductions, and the encouragement of individual enterprise. Another objective was to increase the motor industry and with this in view the motor-car tax had been abolished. An important undertaking was the provision nf winter relief by canvassing the people.
