OBITUARY

MR. JOHN HOWARD PARR HIGH COMMISSIONER'S SON The death occurred yesterday morning of Mr. John Howard Parr, only son of Sir James Parr, High Commissioner for New Zealand in London. Mr. Parr, who was 38 years of age, died at his residence at 20 Burwood Crescent, Remuera, after a short illness. A member of the firm of Parr and Blomfield, barristers and solicitors, Mr. Parr was well known in legal circles. He was educated at the Auckland Grammar School and Waitaki High School, and on leaving school entered the legal firm, in which his father was then a partner. Volunteering on the outbreak of the Great War, he saw service overseas with the New Zealand forces. After the war he continued his legal studies, and on his father's retirement from legal work he became a junior partner in the firm. ■Mr- Parr married Miss Bernice Molloy, of Auckland, in October, 1929. He is survived by his wife and a son aged four years. His sisters are Mrs. E. Stevens, of Nelson, Mrs. A. Epps, of Brisbane, Mrs. M. Seifert, of Melbourne, and Miss Christine Parr. MR. 0. F. R. BELL The death occurred on Thursday at Springwood, Blue Mountains, New South Wales, of Mr. C. F. R. Bell, youngest son of Mr. Robert Bell, of Christchurch. Born in Timaru in 1900, Mr. Bell was educated at Ashburton High School, Canterbury University College and Hertford College, Oxford, where he graduated with honours in modern history. Entering journalism, lie was on the staff of the Liverpool Post for two years and also contributed to other English newspapers. Indifferent health induced him to accept a position on the Sydney Morning Herald, where lie served in the sub-editorial and editorial departments. Four years ago he had to retire from active journalism to the. Blue Mountains, but continued to conduct the Herald book column until his death.
