LAND AT ORAKEI
DEFINITION OF INTERESTS COURT HEARING POSTPONED An application by the Crown Lands Department to partition the interests of the native owners of blocks 4A2 and 4A4 at Orakei came before Mr. F. O. V. Acheaon, Judge of the Native Land Court, at a sitting of the Court yesterday. Mr. Darby, appearing for the department, said the matter was adjourned in November in the hopo of soma arrangement. He asked that the interests of the natives and the Government in the area should bo defined. On behalf of the natives Mr. Sullivan requested an adjournment. Ho recalled that tho Jud«e, at the request of the Government, had investigated the position of the native reserve at Orakei, and had reported on tho matter. The Government had done nothing so far. The Judge said a full report was made to Parliament in 1931. When the title was investigated the Crown grant was not placed in tho names of tho then owners, as the law in force did not permit it. Only one name, that of a chief, had been put in the title, as trustee for the owners. He was precluded from discussing his report, but it contained all the information tho Government required. He hoped the matter Would be settled to the satisfaction of everyone concerned. It would be dealt with when it again camo beforo the Court.
An adjournment of six weeks was granted, pending the return of the Judge from a tour in his district.
