.PERRY BEATS McGRATH MEETS CRAWFORD IN FINAL ENGLISHMAN'S GOOD FORM By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received January 11. 9.45 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Jan. 11 The Australian lawn tennis championships were continued to-day at Kooyong. Results were : Men's Singles.—Semi-final: Perry defeated McGrath, 6 —2, 6—3, 6—l. Women's Singles. Semi-finals : Miss Lyle defeated Mrs. Hopman, 6—l, 7—5; Miss Round defeated Mrs. Westacott, 6 —4, 6—2. Mixed Doubles. Quarter-finals: Kirby and Mrs. Bond defeated Moon and Miss Whittaker, 6 —3, 6 —4; Boussus and Miss Bickerton defeated Menzel and Miss Woodward, 6—3, 7 —5. A hetter exhibition by McGrath against Perry was expected. McGrath, who attacked Perry's backhand, could not withstand the latter's fast drives. The match was disappointing, as a great battle had been anticipated in view of McGratli's great fight against Perry at the 1934 national meeting and his victory over the Englishman in Sydney in December. 4 Perry undoubtedly is right back to form and Crawford will have to be at his best to have any chance of winning the final to-morrow.
Misses Lyle and Round passed untroubled through the semi-finals of the singles, but Mrs. Hopman gave Miss Lyle a good fight.
