CHECK UPON MOTORISTS

BRAKES AND LIGHTS OTAHUHU EXAMINATIONS A report on the checking of brakes and lights of motor vehicles in the Otahuhu and Manukau districts was submitted to the Otahuhu Borough Council by its traffic inspector on Thursday night. The report stated that in two months 1760 vehicles had been checked in regard to braking equipment. It was found that 29 per cent carried certificates of fitness and that approximately 8 per cent did not comply with the regulations. In three cases it has been necessary to prosecute offenders for reasons of public safety. The vehicles in question had been heavily laden lorries without brakes of any description. The check of lights showed that one vehicle out of every seven examined required lighting adjustments.
