BRUTAL ASSAULT
YOUNG WOMAN ATTACKED ANONYMOUS LETTER THREATS [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] "SVESTPORT, Thursday Detectives and police are investigating a brutal assault upon a young woman, Muriel McDonagh, 18 of age, on Monday night. The victim, who was still unconscious to-day. was found in that condition on the verandah of a residence about 70yds out of the street in which she was proceeding to her home. She left a girl friend just before the assault must have taken place. Her friend understood she was going straight home.
It is considered that she was attacked and carried to the verandah where she was found. The" victim of the assault had beeta receiving threatening anonymous letters, which had also been sent to her friends. She is very popular and a member of a well-known Westport family. When discovered she, had a note inside her clothing, on which were writton the words: "Revenge is sweet." The assault took place at about 9 p.m., but inquiries among residents in the vicinity can throw no licht on the matter. The streets were unfrequented, as the night was stormy.
