OIL FOR THE NAVY
ADMIRALTY TANKER NUCULA PERSIAN COMMISSION ENDED Having completed her third voyage to and the Persian Gulf bringing fuel oil for the Xew Zealand Naval Department, the Admiralty oil tanker Nucula returned to Auckland on Tuesday night. During the three voyages the tanker covered about 55.000 miles.
The iirsfc voyage was prolonged oj"ing to the vessel proceeding from Auckland to the Pacific Islands, where she refuelled the cruisers Dunedin and Diomede before she continued to Persia. On' each voyage she returned with about 6300 tons of fuel oil.
On the voyage just completed except tionally fine weather was experienced. The vessel left Auckland on October 27 and reached Abadan, Persia, on November 29, two days ahead of schedule. After loading the cargo she sailed for Auckland on December 1. A call was made at Colombo for stores on December 11 and the voyage was resumed the following day. The weather continued fine throughout.
With the completion of the three voyages the Niicula's Persian Gulf commission is finished, and yesterday the crew was paid off. The tanker will remain in the stream until next week, when she will berth at Devonport. announcement has been made as to when she will leave again for overseas.
