EGG MARKET WEAK

The Department of Agriculture has received the followinc cablegram, dated January 5, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London: — Tallow. —There is a good demand at auction; 484 casks were offered, of which 367 were sold at better prices. Present spot quotations are: —Mutton: Fine, 22s 6d; fair to good, 21s to 225; dark to dull, 18s 6d to 19s 6d. Beof: Sweet and/or mixed, 22s 6d to 23s 6d; fair to good, 20s to 225; dark to dull, 18s to 19s. Mixjpd: Fair to good, 20s to 225; dark to. dull, ISs to 19s. Gut, etc.: 18s to 19s 6d.

Hemp.—The Manila market is firmer and sellers are reserved. "K" grade for January-March shipment sold at £l4. The sisal market is firm and active. Closing values for No. 1 grade for January-March shipment, £ls, while March-May shipment sold up to £ls 7s 6d. In the market for New Zealand there is nothing to report. Nominal value on. the basis of fair grade, £l4 10s for January-February shipment.

Eggs.—The market is weak and irregular, with a downward tendency. English, national pack, lis 6d to 16s; Danish, 9s 6d to 13s 6d; Australian, 9s to lis. New Zealand consignment ex Waiwera landed, but still unsold. Nominal value, 8s to 10s 3d. Apples.—The demand is well maintained for Home and imported and prices are firm. English Cox's Orange, 9s to 14s;. British Columbian Jonathans, 9s 6d to 12s: Newtowns, 10s 6d to 13s; Delicious, 9s 6d to 14s; Oregon Newtowns, lis 6d to 13s 3d; Californian Newtowns, 10s 6d to lis.

Peas. —The Maples market continues quiet. New crop Tasmanian, FebruaryMarch shipment, sold at 42s 6d to 435. New crop, New Zealand, offered at same prices for March-April shipment, but no business is reported. Blues: There was a little more demand during the month and "A" grade Tasmanian afloat sold at £lO.
