DOMINION SCOUTS

A MAORI DISPLAY

FEATURE OF JAMBOREE

SPECTATORS DELIGHTED

ENTHUSIASTIC BOYS

DOINGS IN THE CAMPS

By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright

(Roceived January 4, 5.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Jan. 4

The New Zealand Boy Scouts had their day at the jamboree to-day when thoy gave a Maori display, including songs and dances, which delighted the thousands of spectators. Each day a feature of the events in the arena has been a national pageant presented by the representatives of various countries. The New Zealanders' effort, given with great fervour, was one of the best features of the programme so far. The enthusiasm of.the boys now has reached a high pitch. The weather has been excellent and the health of the boys is good. All will regret the end of the great gathering. The Chief Scout, Lord Baden-Powell, is greatly touched by the warmth of the boys' feeling for him and for Lady Baden-Powell, as typified by the Indian Scouts' greeting when he visited their camp. " May you live a thousand" years, our beloved Chief," cried the Indian leader as Lord Baden-Powell left. A stirring address on tho value of the Scout movement was given by the Governor of South Australia, Sir Winstan Dugan. He said tho Scouts were a great force for international understanding and ijhe peace of tho world. Here boys of all nations were meeting together and extending the hand of friendship. Those who only wrote condemning war should look around here for an example of how to get good work done. In tho Scouts' beach sports Boon and Spelling (Now Zealanders) were first and second respectively in their heat in the 100 yards free stylo event for boys under 16. Bevin was first in his heat for the 100 yards free style event for boys under 18.
