Courtney headed the list of winning owners at the Auckland Racing Club's Summer Meeting was £1440. not £ll4O. as Previously stated. Gay Blonde won £1370 and Gay Sheik £7O. The Haka, a four-year-old New Zealandbred horse, was among the winners at tho big meeting at Capetown, South Africa, m November. Ho won a mile and a-ha.f race, The Tops, after being badly placed approaching the straight. The Haka is Ques irom Dominant, by Martian. Felicitation. England's champion stayer, will not race again. He commences a no stud in England this season at a fee of 200 guineas. He was a really good two-year-old. lost his form the following season, and regained it last year. As he is by Colorado from Felicita, breeder;; are sure to give hi in a full share of patronage. in sp.ite of the fact that lie failed to win at the summer carnival at LUtrslie. Golden Wings' placed performances demonstrated that he is practically as food .is ever. Unfortunately, he is now troubleson at the barrier, but in his present form he is still one of the best horses in the Dominion at distances up to a mile. The date for 'the running oj the next King's Cup, .which it is Queensland s turn to stage, was recently considered by the committee of the Queensland 'i'uri Club, and it was decided to hold the race on the thud day of trie annual exhibition meeting of tlit» club, wnich is usually held during v second week in August of each year. Iho prize-money to be given has not yet been decided. It is probable that-the Australian jockey W. Johnstone finished fourth in last year's winning jockeys' list in 1' ranee. 1' our days before the close of the season Semblat was leading with S3 wins, then cominir ! Rabbe ''o, Duforez OS, Johnstone 00 and Bupuit 58. Among Johnstone's winners at St. Cloud early ui November was a two year-old named Quebec, who started at a big price. J. \Y. Jennings, on Semper Paratus. had ' his fourth win 111 the Greymouth. Cup, which gives him the riding record for that event. His other winners wero Thorndale, Princn Ferouz and Minerva!. Jennings is an Australian, being a native of Deniliciuin. South Wales. He came to New Zealand tthen IT years of Although bo had ridden at shows in Australia, he did 110 rac» riding until be came to Auckland, where 110 | was lonq assuciited with Andrew Kobeitson. F. Butters, whoso horses won three times as mucb in stakes as those of any other trainer in Englarnd this season, did not commence his career in that country. Although he was educated in England, his first start as a trainer was in Austria, as was that of his father, the late J. Butters. F. Butters was nearly 50 when he took up training in England. • Although he won only one of his thrre starts and was unplaced in tho other two at the summer carnival, Silver Jubilee deepened the good impression he had created earlier in the season. Ho is still inclined to hang a little at the barrier, but he should improve in that respect, and even though he disappointed at a mile in his last start, he is an improver who j should have excellent prospects in a race 'ike the Easter Handicap. The four year-old Diatomous was a great disappointment when raced in Sydney in the spring, failing 1o show anything like his true form, but he is right back to his nnd his performances at the summer Meeting at Ellerslie were good. When he ° n the Criterion Handicap with. 8.6 ho *n tho Bis furlongs in 1.11 4-5, time that as been beaten only twice at Ellerslie. 'jtonious retains all his early brilliancy o is now staying on better.
