WEST END GOWN
A West End firm of model gown Manufacturers in London was fined £9OO and the managing director was "tied £6OO at Harwich recently for Waking false Customs declarations. Prosecuting counsel said that defendants imported model gowns from a Ber"n firm, paying an agreed sinn for the exclusive right to reproduce copies for ® a 'e in England. From January, 19.33, to last June £2BOO was paid under this arrangement, and as this sum was not shown on the declarations the Revenue "ad lost £1213. , • Defending counsel said that there was "o question of evasion of payment. It *as only after consulting counsel that defendants came to the conclusion that '®ey should pay dutv on the sum in question.
