MISHAP TO ACTRESS
Marie Tempest, the famous actress, who, at the age of 70, plays the lead in " Theatre Hoval" at the Lvrio Theatre, London, took her part recently after a narrow escape from serious injury the previous night. Miss Tempest's arm was cut when she was struck by a rapier thrown in the air after a fencing bout between Laurence Oliver and Patrick Susands. She was, however, able to remain on the stage until the end of the scene. She said that she was none the worst for the accident.
The actress was standing at one side when Mr. Olivier, in the part of her son, had to chase his physical training instructor down a staircase in the middle of the stage and disarm him. Jt was then that the rapier whirled from the swordsman's grasp, pierced her fore-arm and cut her fingers. As soon as she had finished the scene her arm and fingers were bound up.
