TROTTING NOTES

BREEDING OF WINNERS

PETER THE GREAT-AXWORTHY

NELSON BINGEN SUCCESSES

BY ABAYDOS

Although horses by Nelson Bingen won five races at the Auckland trotting meeting 11 other sires figured in the winning list, namely, Worthy Jiond, Petenvah, Hoy de Oro, three each, Guy Parrish, Poter Chcnault, two each, Peter Moko. Peter Volo, Wrack, Drusus, Gold Bell and Mail o' War 0110 each. Axworthy and Peter the Great blood was well to the Core, and some of tho good winners were bred on tho famous "golden cross," combining both those successful strains of blood.

The "golden cross" winners were Indianapolis, by Wrack, eon of Peter the Great, from Estella Amos, by Dane Axworthy, son of Axworthy; Great Parrish, by Guy Parrish, by Guy Axworthy, son of Axworthy, from Bertha Belle, daughter of l'eter tho Great: Parrish Belle, by Guy Parrish from Belie Binscn, daughter of Bertha Belle; and Kewpie's Bond, by W ortliy 13ond, by Axworthy, from Kewpio, daughter oi Petereta. son of Peter the Great. In spita of tho fact that ho won the Champion Handicap in 2.39. Indianapolis did not reveal his true form at Epsom, and, although he gave a taste of his Quality in his successful outing, the Wrack horse was far from being at home on the right-handed track. There is no doubt about his greatness as a sprinter, and when ho steps oul to attempt tho mile record at Addmgton on Saturday fortnight Indianapolis should t'o very fast if conditions are suitable. Great Parrish won the St. Holier* Handi rap in such brillinnt fashion that his chances of gaining further success at the mooting looked very bright, and it was most unfortunate that he met with a mishap »i the Innovation Handicap. Great larrisn was very sore after the accident and :it may be come time before he races again. Kewpie's Bond, who fell the lust day. made amends in the Onslow Handicap on Monday by winning all the way in 3.19 1-5 off a 3.35 mark. Kewpie's Bond is a young maro of whom the best has not yet been seen. Well-Deserved Return Patience and perseverence on the part pf C G Lee have effected improvement in J arrish Belle, and. after putting up a fine raco in the Rowe Handicap, to be very narrowly beaten by Nell. Volo. she had her r - in the Association Handicap. Lee. driving to tho watch, made no mistakes, although he took a risk in looking round when near the post, but Parrish Belle did not let up. The win was well deserved and long overdue. Tho Canterbury mare Sure is a gooa advertisement for her eire, Peter Chenault Her dam, Our Nurse, has also produced another good-class mare, J robationer Peter Moko, who sired several winners in Auckland, was successfully Topresenlcd_ bv Mccast, who was bred in Southland from Outcast, He is a useful typo of pacer who may show further improvement as tho "S3? SkS*. «t T-v T oi Ike Steals,l. and hifheitpneed ■>"» '<? do stud duty :n America, proved her lea value in her two races, and, conFideTing a-i interrupted preparation, her eiToits were th more praiseworthy. Nell Volo ®b° v .ed her quality to win the. first day. but it v\as in defeat that she demonstrated the sameness and courage of her npole ancestry. Iho American mare is eaually wfell bred on maternal side. . . ... Worthy Light, one of the most consistent young pacers ever seen in Auckland, was. given his first opportunity in the bcstcompany and ho came through with nymst colours. Two wins and a aer°nd , starts was a splendid record, and. although he gained one win as the result of tho placings being reversed, tho .fact. rc ™j" r n * that Worthy Light's second in the Royal Trotting Cup and first m the President b Handicap were remarkable performances lor a horse of his size. Roi L'Or's Lines

The wonderful achievements of Roi LOr will long be remembered by thopo who witnessed his three great efforts. He was piodiucd in excellent, condition oy P. Brown and received every assistance in his racca from the capable reinsmnnship of t. Holmee. To run 4.15 2-5 and 4.14 1-5 for two miles and 2.3G 2-5 for a mile and n-miartcT shows what a rare turn of speed the Key do Oro gelding has. In the Champion Handicap he was timed to run 2.33 3-5 from , post to post. Roi L'Ore dam. Gold Queen, is by King Cole from Dorothy D., a mare by Viking, son of Cluldc Harold, grandson of Hambletonian 10. from a thoroughbred Bingen was represented by Bimzcn Chief (2). Aircraft, Rustle and Te Komi. Birgen Chief ran three sound races for two firsts and a second, which, added to hi« placed performances at le Arolia, make* his record this season two wins, two second* and a third in five starts. W E. Cockbill appears to have made a racehorse ot ths one-limo erratic and knee-knocking pacer, who gives the impression that he will win more handicaps before the season finishes. Having his first race t double at Hawera. Inst faster. treated a field of more than average "otters with scant consideration when C Smith asked him for an effort in tho final stages. Rustle has really good breeding, as on tr.o materna'"side he has Capitalist and Copra do Oro blood. His sire, Jingle, was by Capitalist, a son of Rothschild, from Berlin Maid, whoso dam, Blue Grass Belle, by \ an - deibilt, was imported to I\ew Zealand by Mr. E. E. Lelievre. of Akaroa. Peter the Great-Bingen Cross The young trotter Te Kahu, having his first race this season, made a good lield ot improving horses look like so many novices when he won the Oak Handicap. A slight skip early taw Te Kahu lose a little ground, but, once he settled down, it was soon quite apparent that he would win comfortably Te Kahu is by Nelson Bingen from Lottie Audubon, a granddaughter of Great Audubon, by Peter tno Great, Lottio Audubon has also produced Pegaway, l_a3lf>a. Nellota and Superfine. „ Aircraft is a five-year-old by Isoison Bingen from Air Raid, whose dam. Lady Zeppelin, was got by Rothschild, son _of Chikle Harold, while her ram. Lilian D.. was by Vancleve. Lady Zeppelin was bred by tho late .Tames Pet,tie. who mated her with Brent Locanda, the result .being Air Raid, who produced Warplane. Sweet Memory, who won her last race when 21 years old. was also a daughter of Lilian D. n nd she has a fine three-year-old grey i.iotter by Frank Worthy, who is showing early P ™"olcT Belli;, who sired Electric Bell, the surprise winner of the Tramway Handicap, also appears in the lines of tho rne.it fonr-vear-old Chancellor, whoso dam. Black Gold, a full-sister to Gold Jncket was by Gold Bell Peter wall, sire of Chancellor also produced Wahnooka. who was one of the best trotters in his clnss at the meeting. Ho registered 3.23 on three occasions, nnd when he gels a two-miles race in the South ho will be very hard to heat, . . The Great Northern Derby winner Subsidy has a combination of Rcy de Oro and Brent Locanda blood. He is a game colt, but was called upon to do his very best to hold Proletarian at the finish.
