NEW YEAR MESSAGES
The messages given out to the people by our political leaders, as reported in Monday's Herald, as a New Year greeting, are of interest; inasmuch as they display the attitude of each brand of political thought, in dealing with the problems of to-day, and to-morrow in prospect. It is rather disappointing that so much space is taken up with matters with which wo are all bo well acquainted. The patience mentioned, of course, refers to the patience of the people, who wait for another Seddon to rise up and put right our difficulties. The idea running through the messages strikes one as "wait and 6ee." Coming to tho greeting of a "grander destiny" the simple language of understanding of the acute difficulties of tho average man and woman appeals in no uncertain manner. Their troubles are understood, and, however unpractical the method suggested to five relief, the desire to do rings true, here is much truth and many doubtful sayings in a "grander destiny" greeting; but it does lift that feeling of hopelessness which at times docs possess the unemployed. /
