FURTHER FALL IN EARNINGS

REDUCTION IN DIVIDEND

A further fall in earnings was experienced last year by the New Zealand and River Plate Land Mortgage Company, Limited, according to cabled advice received by the local attorneys. Tho net profit for the year ended October 31 was £16,093, compared with £28,626 in tho previous year. At the annual meeting, which will be hold in London on. January 15, the directors will recommend payment of a dividend of 3 per cent, against 5 per cent in the previous year. The dividend, which is payable less income tax at 4s 6d in the pound, absorbs £21,000, and £37,344 iw carried forward, against £42,251 brought into the accounts. The sum of £50,000 has been transferred from reserves to exchange provision account. Hen eggs arc now being offered at Is 2d a dozen, while duck eggs are selling at Is Id. Good supplies of stone fruits are coming forward, and the quality is good. The first of tho season's crops of raspberries and black currants are coming forward and are finding a good«demand. Both hothouse and outdoor tomatoes show a reduction of 2d a pound, while values for local hothouse grapes show a further decrease of 9d a pound. At the London tallow sales to-day 484 casks were offered and 350 were sold. Prices mostly Is dearer. Current quotations are:—Mutton, fine. 22s 6d cwt; medium, 19s Gd; beef, fine, 23s 3d; medium, 19s.

Tho- Bank of New Zealand has received the following advice from its London office under date January 2:— Tallow. —There is a good demand. Current quotations: Good mutton,' 21s Cd to 22s per cwt.; beef, 21s 6d to 225; mixed, 21s Gd to 225; gut, 18s to 19s Gd.
