BAPTIST CHURCH DISPUTE

COURT ACTION SETTLED REINSTATEMENT OF MINISTER [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON. Wednesday The action brought by the Rev. Oswald Macliattie, of Auckland, formerly of Napier, for a writ of mandamus to compel restoration of his name to the list of ministerial members of the Baptist Union of Now Zealand, which recently came before Mr. Justice ]jHair in the Supreme Court, has been settled, the agreement including the restoration of Mr. Maehattie's namo to the list of ministerial members.

The dispute concerned the removal of Mr. Machattie, who was formerly minister of the Baptist Church at Napier, from tbe Baptist Union about April, 1932. When the matter came before the Supreme Court in iSeptember of this year Mr. Machattie alleged that the removal of his name was illegal, irregular, void and done without right. He alleged he had lodged an appeal, but that it had not been heard or properly dealt with. Mr. Justice Blair urged the parties to ooine together and this has now been done, and the matter honourably settled out of court.
