CATHOLIC REPERTORY

READING CIRCLE ENJOYABLE DANCE HELD A dance, interspersed with items, was the type of function chosen by the Catholic Repertory Society reading circle to mark the cessation of the circle's activities for this year. Held last evening in the Auckland Amateur Operatic Society's Hall, Grafton Road, the dance was well attended by members of the society and their friends, and the occasion proved thoroughly enjoyable. A cordial welcome to visitors and members was extended by the president of the reading circle, Mr. Frank Sweeney, who took the opportunity of thanking the committee members for the excellent support they had given the circle during the year. The circle was now well established, he said, and with the support of the existing members and of others who had signified their intention of joining the society, it was hoped to build up a circle that would be a credit to the repertory movement in Auckland. The programme comprised songs by Miss Lorna Forsman and Mr. V. Morgan; pianoforte solos by Miss Winifred Cooke, elocutionary items by Miss Kathleen Coleman and humorous numbers by Mr. Dan Flood. A one-act comedy by Margaret Jennings, entitled "Lady Carchester's Secret," was read by Miss Gwen McNaughton. Miss Tui Hall, Miss Mercia Casey and Mr. Desmond Jackson.
