SOME INCREASES MADE CAMPS AND FARM SCHEME SCALE AT HOBSONVILLE [st TELEGRAPH —SPECIAL REPORTER] WELLINGTON, Wednesday Particulars of new rates of pay for those employed in single men's camps and under the small farms scheme were given by the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. J. Bitchener, in the House of Representatives to-night. The rates, which are operative from October 1, provide for the payment of 15s a week and found for those in single men's camps, as compared with the previous, rate of 10s a week. The weekly rates payable to those engaged under the small farms scheme are: —Single men, without food. 255; single men, provided with food. 15s; married men, with wife only, 375: with wife and one child, 40s: with wife and two children, 425; with wife and three or more children, 435. There has been a 5 per cent increase in the prices to be paid in co-operative contracts at the Hobsonville aerodrome, the new basis being 10s 6d a day, which will be the rate for day work. Also on all other relief works controlled by the Public Works Department, the men are to receive a 5 per cent increase in pay on contract prices, but no back pay. This' relates particularly to land improvement work which is being carried out under financial arrangements made by the Unemployment Board with settlers, whereby the department is acting as agent for the board. Men employed at September 29 on standard works and relief workers employed at standard rates on irrigation, roads and other full-time work are to receive the 5 per cent increase in pay as from April 1 last. Men who left the employ of the department between April 1 and September 29 for any reason will not be entitled to back pay.
