RUNNING DESCRIBED

WIN FOR FLAM MARION Passion fruit brilliant REREPAI TAKES DURIE HACK fBY TELEGRAPH— FROM ARCHER] WANGANUI, Thursday Kfelden by the Auckland horseman T. Greenj Flammarion, second favourite to Iloyal Feast, finished splendidly to win the, maiden race from Sunee, an outsider:, who paid a fine prico for second;

Redeem begun very smartly, followed by Hunting Queen and Amante, and at the top she was clear from Dawn Princess and Royal Feast, with Flammarion running up. Redeem was a length clear of Royal Feast nearing the home turn, where Flammarion, Dawn Princess and Sunee were closest of the others. Once in line for home. Redeem tired quickly and Royal Feast assumed command. Then Flammarion and Sunee came fast on the outside, Flammarion winning by a neck from Sunee. Royal Feast was another neck away third, and Redeem was fourth, followed by Harvest Moon and Dawn ■ Princess* • ' " * The placed horses all drew bad positions, Royal Feast -and Flammarion being, on the extreme putside. Flammarion ran on splendidly in the straight and so did Sunee. Royal Feast failed slightly at the end, and Redeem stopped quickly after displaying fine speed. None of the others gave any trouble ; )• It was with .a strong finishing effort that Silent Bill drew out in the run from the last fence to win the Okehu Hack Hurdles very decisively. Hauwai and Emotion set a fast pace ovqr the first couple of fences, and the speed th«i slowed down. Hauwai and Emotion continued to make the running, and led until' reaching the straight, where 'Esteem, who had run up on the outside at the top, Silent Bill and Brigadore were hindy. 'Hauwai, Emotion and Silent Bill were almost abreast jumping the Inst fence, Silent Bill then drawing away to beat Emotion' "by two lengths. Bngadore, finishing fast, was a length away third, just beating Esteem for that position. Hauwai was close up fifth, followed by Transact, Red Sun and No Humbug. Success ol Headmistress

Silent Bill i» on the improve, and after being quietly ridden in behind he ran on too well for Emotion. Brigadore was not well handled, and was going better than anything at the finish. Hauwai failed only in the run from the last fence, and Transact, a likely improver, was staying on at. the end. Calydon and Sun did not 'jump well, but should improve with experience. Calydon covered a good deal of ground, and when ho gains proficiency in his fencing,' should do well. The favourites King Thomond and Headmistress bqth. ran good races in the Putiki Hack Handicap, Headmistress winning narrowly, while King Thomond was fourth. Colossal was half-turned at the start, losing several lengths. Hest, who drew near the' outside, ran to the front quickly and along the back was the leader from Headmistress, Hest just led Headmistress at the top, where Davistock, Hukemanu, King Thomond and Taitoru- were all bandy. Soon after > rounding the home turn. Headmistress headed Hest and withstood a determined challenge from Davistock to win by a head. Hest was two lengths away third, and King Thomond was fourth. Next to finish were Taitoru, Hukemanu and Sir Nigel. Headmistress Was always well placed and on solidly at the finish. Davistock finished strongly, but Hest weakened in the run home after being kioked up to «et to the front early. Taitoru and Hukemanu . ran creditably, and Sir Nigel closer at the finish than at any other • stage. • An. exciting finish in the Marangai Handicap saw Limbohm do best in the last halffurlong. to- score narrowly; Mercian Prince and Tiger Gain made most of the running, ; 'with Spiral and Plateau together just in behind them, and Limbohm next. About * furlong from the post Mercian Prince, Tiger, Gain, .Plateau, Spiral and Limbohm were almost in line. Bpiral then gained a elight advantage but Limbohm made a. jine -.effort . on the.; outside to defeat him by a•- neck, Tjiger'-Gain Vss three-parts- of a length away third and Plateau waa. fourth, with Merpian Prince a close filth. -iv Returning, '.on? It was a cleanly-run race, and Limbohm. finished" "best. Spiral' and Tiger Gain may b* improved ■by the Tun, and Plateau is also coming back to his best form. Mer-> ■ 'cian Prince-went well in the lead until reaching the straight, but weakened in the last 100 yds. The first and second horses were equal- second fancies to Tiger Gain, who had a tair call in the betting. Last when the field had covered half a mile. Passion Fruit commenced a fast run on the outside of the field rounding the home turn, and he was in command at the foot of the straight, to win the Seafield Handicap in brilliant fashion. Rereatu, Pomp. Passion Fruit and Mother Superior were quickly prominent, but Passion Fruit isoon lost his position and went right back jto"-*!h.e rear. Rereatu, Mother Superior and ) Windscreen then went on in the lead to- ! gether, ahead of King's Knave, Korokio 1 and Pomp, who were bunched ahead of Orapai. Passion Fruit ran round the field entering the straight and won by two lengths from Rereatu, who defeated Korokio by a head. Pomp was fourth, succeeded by Orapai, King's Knave and Mother Superior. The winner's finishing effort was brilliant. Rereatu ran another godd race, only to register his fourth successive second. Orapai was never dangerous, and Mother Superior faded right ouVin the straight. Cyclonic was a good favourite for the . Dime Hack Handicap, but he had to lower his colours to the three-year-old Rerepai. who was third favourite. Rerepai Jumped out smartly from Cyclonic and Hunting Lodge, and when the field had settled down he was in command- from Cyclonic; Hy discus, Hunting Lodge; Bodyline and Hunting Jay. who had run up fast after being a trifle slow away.. Rerepai stayed on_sobdly at the finish and won by three-parts of a length from Cyclonic, who' defated Hunting Lodge by half a length. Hunting Jay was two lengths further back fourth, followed by Courtega, who moved up smartly on the oatside at the home turn, Purse. Bodyline : and Blue. Boy. Likely Improvers

1 Rerepai was improved as a result of his : race at Marton, and registered a smooth performance. Cyclonic and Hunting Lodge ran good races, and Hunting Jay did well with his big weight. Likely . improvers among the others are Hy Discus and was favourite for the Flying Handicap and duly won. although he had little to spare at the finish. The field gave a lot at trouble at the post, and after the tapes had been broken twice a good start was effected. The Tiger, Pin Money and Burnish were smartest to find their Jeet, The Tiger leading across the top from. Superior, Pin Money,:. Good Hunting and Burnish, with Cadland several lengths back. Nearing the turn Good Hunting and Cadland began to move up on the outside, and they challenged strongly in the straight. However, Tlia Tifferhune oh well to win by a necK from Good' Hunting, who beat Cadland by a head. Pin Money was fourth, followed by Superior and Burnish. The Tiger is partial to the turning course, and he was again assisted by hie early brilliancy. Good Hunting and Cadland both finished splendidly,. Cadland being a good way back after going two furlongs. Pin Money aild Superior both tired at the end and Burnish failed to show anything like her true form.
