MUNICIPAL PROGRAMMES board providing subsidy 12 PER CENT OF CAPITAL COST NO ALLOWANCE FOR LAND [by telegraph — spkciaf. reporter] WELLINGTON, Friday The decision of the Unemployment Board to provide from its funds a subsidy equal to 12 per cent of the capital cost involved in improvements under municipal building programmes was announced in the House of Representatives to-day by the Hon. J. A. Young, acting Minister of Employment. p . The Minister said that, in furtherance of the proposals mentioned by the Minister of Employment, the Hon. A. Hamilton, in announcing recently the details of the Unemployment Board's new house-building scheme, the Unemployment Board had been giving consideration to the question of what would be a reasonable measure of assistance to offer to local bodies with the object of facilitating their entry upon municipal house-building programmes on a comprehensive scale. The board had that day decided that, subject to conditions, the details of which had yet to be finalised, it would provide from its funds a subsidy equal to 12 per cent of the capital cost involved in improvements under such building programmes. The proposed subsidy would not cover expenditure incurred by local authorities in the acquisition of land.
