ENTRY TO PALESTINE
PASSPORT REGULATIONS TEMPORARY RESIDENTS [BY TELEGRAPH SPECIAL REPORTER.] WELLINGTON, Friday Advice has been received by the Government that a large number of persons are entering Palestine on passpbrts bearing travellers' visas, which have been obtained on the basis that these people intend merely to visit the country, but they then remain in Palestine. The Hon. J. A. Young, Minister of Internal Affairs, said to-day that an instruction has now been issued that all applicants for travellers' visas in future may be required to furnish a deposit of £6O. This amount will be refunded if claimed in person within four months of the date of the granting of the visa. Persons desiring to enter Palestine for permanent residence are required to obtain prior permission of the Department of Immigration in Jerusalem before their passports will be validated for travel to Palestine.
Recipients of travellers' and transit visas for Palestine are warned that they are not permitted to settle in the countrj' or to seek or to take up employment there, and any who do so are liable on conviction to a «entence of imprisonment not exceeding six months or a fine of £IOO, and to deportation from Palestine.
