CONTEST WITH KOLOFF FALL IN SIXTH ROUND A LAST DESPERATE EFFORT ! [by telegraph—OWN- correspondent] WELLINGTON, Monday I' Eight rounds of. solid but unspec- ! iacuTar wrestling between George "V\ali ker (New Zealand) and Dan Koloff | (Bulgaria) was witnessed by a crowded i house" at the Wellington Town Hall this I evening. Koloff won by the only fall !of the contest, secured in sixth ; round with a dump. A more tnrilling : bout was expected and it is probable ! that the crowd was disappointed. Koloff's weight was given at lG stone, but it was announced that alker re- ! fused to weigh in. After an exchange i of holds Walker threw his opponent i with a head lock. As soon as Koloff | kicked free he was grounded again ! v,ixh the same hold, but at the gong | Walker was freeing himself from a j hammerlock. In the second round Walker butted ! his opponent and almost threw him out | of the ring before Koloff caused some j trouble with a headlock. Caught in an ' nimlock, Koloff brought his knee into 1 Walker's chin, escaped and applied a i head scissors, which was worrying ! the other man when the bell arrived, i Walker was trying to dump Koloff out j of the ring in the third round, but the I referee intervened. Walker appeared j distressed when trapped in a severe | headlock, but he got free, picked I Koloff up and threw him over the ropes. ; As Walker clapped on a headlock in | the fourth round Koloff smartly picked \ him up, dumped hiru and applied a body j scissors, and so near was he to securing | a fall that the referee's hand was held i up waiting to pat his back. Walker with I a terrific heave, got to his feet, grabbed I Koloff's legs and just missed putting on j a Boston crab. A counter-attack by | Koloff enabled him to score with a bodyscissors in the fifth round. strength saved Walker wlben he fell into a double wristlock, whiek he reversed into a short, arm scissors. Koloff was thrown heavily with headlocks at- the beginning of the nest round. He retaliated with a head scissors, and then picked alker up bodily, threw him to the canvas and pinned his shoulders to take the first fall at sni. 20s. In the seventh round the Bulgarian, who was wrestling well, secured a body scissors before Walker clapped on a lying splits, which caused some worry. A brisk pace was set in the last round, when Walker, with a reverse wristlock. felled the Bulgarian, who for • the edge of the ring. Koloff _ was troubled in a sitting splits, but, seizing an arm, he pulled Walker over and twisted round to free himself. Again when the New Zealander was trying for a press Koloff jumped out of the ring when Walker was bowling him oyer with headlocks. Walker was trying j desperately to pin his opponent s shoulders," and several times he looked like succeeding after a series of headlocks. but Koloff managed to survive his efforts.
