JEWISH SCIENTIST
RESEARCH IN AUCKLAND UNIVERSITY FACILITIES An explanation of the conditions under which Dr. Kreielsheimer is being -received at Auckland University College, was made by the president, Mr. Kenneth Mackenzie, at a meeting of the college council yesterday. Dr. Kreielsheimer is one of the Jewish scientists who have been driven out of Germany by the policy of the Nazi Government. In reply to Mr. H. Horton, who said a certain amount of discussion was being caused outside the university, Mr. Mackenzie said he wished to make it quite clear that all the council was doing was to afford to Dr. Kreielsheimer, who was a research scientist in wireless transmissions, the use of the physics laboratory facilities for his own work. Tliero were no financial relations or responsibilities between the council and Dr. Kreielsheimer, and the college could make no claim to his time. Dr. Kreielsheimer is expected to arrive at Wellington by the lonic on June 26. Dr. Kreielsheimer is , being sent to New Zealand by the Academic Assistance Council, an English organisation of which Lord Rutherford is president. Last year the council received £13,000 for the assistance of Jews exiled from Germany. Married persons are given a maintenance grant of £250 and single persons £lB2. Last year 178 persons were placed in temporary posts, including 31 at Cambridge University, 17 at Oxford University, six at Edinburgh and 67 at London research institutes and colleges. In the same period 211 persons were placed in overseas positions.
