MINE SETTLEMENT
AGREEMENT AT WAIHI INCREASE IN WAGES MEN ACCEPT PROPOSALS LARGE MAJORITY IN BALLOT [by TELEGRAPH —OWN correspondent] WAIHI, Tuesday At the secret ballot to-day of members of the Ohinemuri Mines and Batteries Employees' Union,on the question of accepting or rejecting the district' mine owners' wages offers, the terms were accepted by 489 votes to 92, tho total votes exercised thus being 581, representing practically all the financial members of the union. The terms provide for th« payment by the Waihi G<|'d Mining Company of an increase in wages of Is 4d per shift on the current rate and of 8d pur shift by the Golden Dawn Gold Mining Company at Owharoa. In the case of tho AVaihi mine, 8d of the increase of Is 4d per shift is to be added to schedule rates and 8d paid by way of bonus quarterly to day workers. Jn the ease of the Golden Dawn mi:v.v the increase is subject to the proviso that tho question of wages may be reopened by the union after a period of three months. The workers at Golden Dawn exercised the largest vote again: b acceptance of the terms, those oppose:! * numbering 29, while 44 were in favour of acceptance. The agreement is retrospective to March 19. •
