DESTROYED BY FIRE

EMPTY HOUSE AT MILFORD NO WATER AVAILABLE An empty four-roomed house on Sheriff's Hill, Milford, was destroyed by firo shortly after nine o'clock last night. The house was an old building, being one of the first dwellings to be built in the street, and was quickly consumed by the flames. The Takapuna fire brigade was summoned from a call box at the corner of Kitchener Street, but as the dwelling was outside the reticulation area no water was available and nothing could be done to save the building. The fire caused a glare in the sky which was visible for a long distance and attracted many spectators. The house originally was a part of tho Warmoll Estate and had been untenanted foit' the past three years.
