STRANGER AT A BALL
" V.C." GREETS MR. FORBES PRECIPITATE RETIREMENT As be entered the Town Hall to attend the old-timers' ball at Elthain the other evening, the Prime Minister was met by an individual who loudly proclaimed that he was representing Australia at tho jubilee proceedings and modestly added that he wore tho V.C. decoration. Enjoying the whole attention of Mr. Forbes, he walked up to tho stage with him and sat down to witness the spectacle of the crowd enjoying themselves on the dancing floor.
Then the Mayor leaned over to Mr. Forbes and inquired as to the identity of his newly-found friend. Mr. Forbes replied that he was an utter stranger to him —he had thought ho was one of the officials of the function. The Mayor quickly disabused his mind and asked the stranger to retire from his vantage point. After some demur he consented and retired more precipitately than gracefully from the ranks of the official party.
