BRITISH ADMIRAL ROBBED
VALUABLE JEWELS MISSED UNDER COVER OF WIRELESS A daring gang of dinner-time jewel thieves, who have made hauls of nearlj £200,000 from large country houses during the last 12 months, lately addec another robbery to a list engaging the attention of Scotland Yard. The scene of the gang's latest opera tion is Ellerslie House, the home o Admiral Sir Reginald Tyrwhitt, a Hawkhurst, Kent. The raid was madi while the family were at dinner. The thieves carried away from Lad; Tyrwhitt's bedroom an ornate Chinesi j cabinet, containing a ruby crescen I valued at £25, but overlooked nuicl more valuable jewellery a few inehe: away. The admiral's insignia, including his G.C B. and D.S.O. decorations, wen in a box close by, which was also tin touched. Admiral Tyrwhitt, who is Principa Naval Aidc-dd-Camp to the King, tool part in the Heligoland and Dogge Bank actions in the Great Wcr. " Th thieves securely lashed together twi ladders which I had been using to re pair the roof of my squash court," hi said in an interview. " There can be no doubt that th intruders entered while we were at din ner. It is equally certain that we wen listening to the wireless at the time, remember it was tuned in to a loui programme, which must have drownec the noise they made." Less than a fortnight previously, ; gang broke into the residence of Si Benjamin Cohen, K.C., at Limpsfiekl Surrey, and the police issued a warn ing to the public to lock up all ladder at night and to secure all windows ii the early evening. Two days before ihi: robbery, Miss Vesta Victoria's house al Rovdon, Essex, was robbed of valuable jewellery.
