MARAMARUA HUNT

THE OPENING MEET A successful day's hunting was experienced by over 150 followers who attended the opening meet of the Maramarua Hunt Club yesterday. Tlio followers assembled at the Maramarua Hall, where the hunt breakfast was provided. There was a large number of visitors, coming from as far afield as Auckland, Waiuku, Thames and Pacroa, After breakfast followers lined up in front of the hall and were addressed by Mr. H. K. Jones, the president, and Mr. J. D. Fngan. Reference was made to the increasing popularity of hunting in the district, there being over 100 pe?, cent increase in membership since last year. The followers then moved off to Mr. Peach's farm. Hares were very plentiful and some fine runs took piaco, with several kills. The farms of Messrs. Simmonds, Peach, Hales and Goodwin were hunted over and it was late in the afternoon before a halt was called. The jumping throughout was splendid and there were comparatively few falls, all being of a minor nature. An energetic ladies' committee catered for the largo number who attended. A successful ball was held at the hall in the evening. Among those present from Auckland and the P'akuranga Hunt Club were:—Miss Shirley Watkius, Mr. and Mrs. H. Garland. The hunting 'was over the Gate Pa racecourso and Morriman Brothers 21 omit bt. Jolin property in tho same locality, Se\eral hares were started and took courses which provided excellent jumping over numerous f.oncoß for ft bout 70. followers, who came from Rotorua, Otnmnrakau, Te Puke, Papamoa and the surrounding districts. Shortly before four o'clock hounds were called off and a spectacular run was made to the racecourse, where refreshments were provided by the Indies. The meet enabled a number of horses to qualify for hunting ovents at the forthcoming race meetina to be held on the Makctu racecourse.
