Thursday Conditions were again favourable for training work to-day and some instructive tasks were executed by horses booked to race at Ashburfon on Saturday. Martian Chief, carrying his trainer, ran six furlongs comfortably in 1.19. Ho was accompanied over the last half by Tuirau, and the pair completed the journey abreast. Both a::e coming to hand well and will benefit by their racing at Ashburton. Imperial Spear and Rebel Star kept together throughout a strong wording gallop over a mile, taking 1.49 2-5. The former again impressed. Copyist was responsible for a smart six furlongs in 1.16 1-5. Haere Tonu recorded similar time and ran home the last three in 37 2-sa. Colossian was always going better than Fleeting Glance over a similar journey in 1.16 4-5. Tho former i 8 one of the most improved horses in commission at headquarters. Strong Light and French Maid were abreast at the end of half-a-mile in 51 2-53. The latter, by Arrowsmith from 'Louise, possesses a useful turn of speed. She is owned by Mr, W. T. Hazlett. Tout le Monde again gave Red Dance ana Cleaner a break over the early stages of seven furlongs, but had them beaten at tho top of the straight and finished in front of his stablemates, who both completed' - their work solidly. The time for the journey. 1.29 4-5, was good. ' ' , Knowledge and Rose of Tralee ran home three furlongs in 395, and Control sprinted a like distance in 39 3-ss; Grand Review covered live furlongs .in 1.4 1-5. Bhe is very well just now. Grecian Prince -jumped like an old stager in tho schooling but when taken to the bigger hurdles down tho straight gave a poor display, running off twice. _ - One. of the . most attractive and likely fijlies in work at Riccarton is Rose of Tralee, a well-grown chestnut by Night Raid from Sunny Brook, by Sunny Lake from Arai Te Uru, by Birkenhead, bred and owned by- Mr. J. Watson, who had no luck with the. previous progeny from the mare, Sunny Pal and Taunton. Rose of Tralee has not been in Commission long, but has shown marked ability. She is to be given her first race at Ashburton and much interest will" attach to her showing. Control is making very satisfactory progress and has thrown off all effects of a poisoned leg, from which he suffered during his recent spell. Ho has not yet gone beyond three furlongs sprints, and in' one of these he impressed track-watchcra by his long-striding but easy-going action. It will be surprising if this colt does not turn out a high-class three-year-old. Thurina is still in easy work at his partowner's property at Doyleston, and will not be sent to Riccarton until some time next month to give him a final preparation for the Wellington meeting, at which ho will open the season. In contrast to the position at this stage last year, he has not had a setback of any kind Rince put into work some months ago and there is every reason to believe that he will have no recurrence of the leg trouble which restricted his earlier career. Thursday Weather conditions were very unfavourable for the final gallops at Te Awnnuitu this morning. The course proper, with the flags out Gft, was in use for horses with engagements at Te Rapa. Tuahenhe (Home) an<l Te latia (Cameron ), after running the first throe fuilongs of their work in 38 2-ss, got to the end of five furlongs in 1.5 1-0. There was nothing between them at the finish. Loombination (Home) and Tnshna (Paul) were sent over five furlongs. Die first two furlongs took 2Gs, and they completed the, task in I.G. Trishna did slightly the better. Safe Bank (Home 1 ) was in front of Quin Star (Cameron) at the end of five furlongs in I.G. .The first half look 525. Quin Star blew very badly and dropped back quickly after going half a mile.
