RUCHING REVIVED
An attractive and inexpensive type of trimming which has returned to favour this year is gathered niching. It is made from a narrow ribbon or from a bias-cut strip of material with its raw edges slightly frayed out. Allow one aud a half to one and three quarters the finished length wanted. Simply gather the ribbon or strip, through the ' lengthwise centre, afterwards, stitching it to the frock through ' the gathers To give frayed edges a charming (lilted effect, take them between finger and thumfreach inch or two,'and give an outward twist to the hand. A variation of gathered niching is to proceed exactly as for the corded type; but merely gather each folded edge, a tiny way; inside the crease, instead , of cording it. This is used for narrow ruches of very thin material.
