IMPORTANT PUBLICATION r FORTY-THIRD PUBLICATION The first issue of the Auckland Directory was published in 1866, & modest volume of 168 pages, with stiff paper cover and cloth back. The pubfishers were Messrs. Mitchell and Seffern, of No. 6 Wyndham Street, and in the prefatory remark? it is stated that, although their initial effort was confined to the Auckland Oity and Suburbs, it was the publishers' -intention that future publications would"embrace the entire Province of Auckland-. . , Eventually the Auckland Provincial Directory came into being/ and the 1934 u volume, published by Leightons, MaL, containing 2200 ; pages and bound in : full red cloth, is now on sale. X: This comprehensive volume dealing - with the whole of the _ Auckland one-third, of the , t Dominion's total population, distnbuted over 1400 townships—is a neeessity to all business and professional The very many alterations caused py the pioviiig population and of towns necessitated over .20)000 alterations, in the present volume. The Auckland Provincial Directory gives; the names of all householders, their occupations and street addresses in all towns and settlements in J' 10 Auckland Province. In addition to the Streets Directory there is also an Alphabetical Section, which enables the business or professional man to Quickly find the required individual or institution. There is, in addition, a Trades Section of 250 pages, in whieh every business or profession in the Province is listed in alphabetical order under 'its trade heading. Then there is a. Miscellaneous Section, containing the names of all Benevolent Societies, Hospital Boards, Agricultural and Horticultural Societies, Business and Social Clubs, School Committees, Independent Societies, Racing,. Sporting, Athletic, Cricket. Croquet, Football, Bowling. Hockey, Swimming. Sailing and Rowing Clubs, in all instates giving the names of the executive officers. _ ~ ~, A section headed Educational gives a complete list of all the Secondary and Primary Schools. Under the heading of "Ecclesiastical" there is a com plete list of the Churches of all denominations, with their respective ministers. . ■ ~ . A complete Postal _ Guide „is contained. A section is devoted to Real Estate, Mercantile and Harbour Charges. , , The headings that complete this very usefnl volume are Chambers of Commerce, Municipal. Borough, Bond *nd Town Boards, County and Harbour Board Officers, a Judicial Directory and list of the Justices of the Peace of the Auckland Province.
