ISLAND TRAGEDY
/. - • SUICIDE WHILE DEPRESSED [from otra own correspondent] SUVA. March 13 Particulars of an unfortunate tragedy were revealed at the Suva Courthouse this afternoon when an inquiry was held by the district magistrate, Mr. A. J. Armstrong, into the circumstances surrounding the death of Walter William Guy, who was found at his residence at Suva with his throat cut in the early hours of Monday,- March 5. A neighbour said he was awakened by the sound of Guy's dog barking. On going out to investigate ho saw Guy proceeding on his hands and knees in the direction of witness' front gate. Ho called out and the man dropped to the ground. He summoned the police and a dqctor. On their arrival it was found that life was extinct. Deceased's small son and daughter were asleep inside thr< house. It was stated by the police that the unfortunate man had come to the colony six months previously, but for the last few months had had no regular employment. He Avas in bad health and a few days prior to his death his wife was .taken into hospital for a serious operation. . A finding was returned that deceased had died from a wound teelf-inflicted while in a state of mental depression caused Jjy<*J lß , ow £ an d his wife's ill-health and his lack of funds to meet the future.
