SWIMMING
UNIVERSITY CARNIVAL TOURNAMENT .AT EASTER No records were broken at the annual championship carnival of the Auckland University Amateur Swimming Club, held in the Tepid Baths Inst, evening. The championships were not actually those of the college, since only members of the University Club were eligiblo to compete. Students debarred through being members of other clubs will take part in special challenge races this afternoon. If they register faster times than those made by winners of races last evening, they will probably be selected to represent the Auckland College at the annual inter-university tournament in ChristChurch at Easter. The following swimmers have been provisionally selected: —Men: W. Gunn, o. Mathieson and L. Adams. Ladies: Misses L. Steel, C. Butcher and J. Armstrong. 'The 50yds and 100 yds men's events were won by C. ilatnieson in 27s and 1 04b, the 2'_oyds by J. Allen in 2m 54 l-ss, and the 440 yds by L. Adams. Alien also won the 6ii 2-3 yds backstroke, • and W. Gunn was successful in the 100 yds breaststroke. Easily the best lady p\yimmer was Misa J: Ars J' etrong, who was victorious in the 60yds and 100 yds :■ ladies' free-style contests, lhe 66 2-3 yds ladies' breaststroke was won by Miss S. Kin'g' Mason, and the 33 l-3yds backstroke by Miss C. Butcher. ' An. attempt to lower the New Zealand intermediate boys' breaststroke record for 100 yds, 73 3-ss, held by it.' Gediles, of Dunedm, was made by tho Aucklana intermediate champion, D. Shanahan. Although his Auckland record is 6nlj 4 2-5» slower than l the Dominion timo,. he failed by 11 seconds. , Two GG 2-3 yds inter-club handicaps .wore also decided. The'.ladies' event Was won by :v 12 years old girl, Miss M. Blacky (Waitemala. Club), and she recorded the remarkable time of 425.
