HOSPITAL AFFAIRS

INFECTIOUS DISEASES BLOCK OCCUPATION RECOMMENDED A report of the staff executive committee on the use of the infectious diseases block, received at the meeting of tlio Auckland Hospital Board yesterday, stated that if the building were not to deteriorate it must be occupied. The incidence of infectious disease in the community had not been sufficiently heavy to make it necessary to use the building as nn infectious block. The most suitable type of case to be housed in it would be orthopaedic cases, as they could be most readily moved in emergency. The committee was thanked for the report. The tender of Hutchinson Brothers, Limited, for supplies to recipients of relief was accepted. The tender was the lowest of four. It was stated that tho figures of the successful tenderer were higher in 14 cases in comparison with last year. They were the same in 29 cases and lower in six eases. Rowlands and Son's tender was accepted for the Onehunga district, and that of the Farmers' Union Trading Company for tho Pukekohe district.

Mr. A. L. Spence was welcomed as a member of tho board when he took his seat for the first time as representative of tho combined districts of Mount Eden, Mount Albert. Newmarket, Onehunga, New Lynn and Ellerslie. A report from the Auckland Fire Board on the fire-fighting appliances at tho infirmary stated that the whole of the hose needed replacing, and suggested tho purchase of hand chemical extinguishers.
