ALLEGATION BY ALLIANCE HOTELS UNDER OBSERVATION That, n considerable amount of illicit trading is carried on by city hotels was alleged at a meeting this week of the Auckland Council of the New Zealand Alliance. Tho secretary reported that a number of tho hotels had been under observation during the month and that information had been forwarded to the police. While some licensees appeared to observe tho six o'clock closing law strictly, others deliberately flouted it and carried on an extensivo after-hour trade. Attention was called to the numerous cases of intoxicated motorists reported in the press. It was decided to urge tho Minister of Justice to givo legislative effect to tho motto adopted by the South Island Motor Union, "No liquor at tho wheel."
